What are the common types of charging cables?

What are the consequences of using low-quality or mislabeled charging cables?

A>In terms of safety risks, the conductors inside a charging cable, due to poor workmanship or quality, are prone to overheating or short circuits, posing a fire hazard. If the insulation layer is damaged, aged, or mislabeled, it can easily lead to electric shock, electric leakage, or combustion. Non-compliant charging cables can also generate strong electromagnetic interference, affecting the signal quality of the phone.

Regarding performance, it can result in slow and unstable charging speeds, and may even cause intermittent connections that are invisible to the naked eye, affecting the lifespan of the device’s internal components and damaging the battery. What is an E-marker chip?

A>According to USB-iF regulations, charging cables with a current exceeding 3A must embed an E-marker chip in the Type-C connector to achieve optimal charging efficiency and safety. Failure to do so may result in damage to the charging device. High-quality USB Type-C 5A charging cables that support USB Power Delivery (PD) fast charging typically include an E-marker chip. However, to cut costs, manufacturers of some low-cost 5A charging cables may omit this component. Furthermore, certain Chinese smartphone manufacturers have their own proprietary charging standards and protocols, which may have different requirements for charging cables, and some may not necessitate the use of an E-marker chip.
